COMPOSTELLA & LOURDES

Pilgrimage Holiday to Compostella & Lourdes Summer this year. SLIDE SHOW AND TALK   about Compostella will take place in the Social Centre on Thursday 25March at 7.30pm:  it will give a flavour of the place and the Holiday. NO STRINGS attached to coming along.. and information evening. I have 'Put out Feelers' about the possibility of taking a Summer Trip to the Spanish Pilgrimage City of Compostella (Northern Spain). I believe it is a Holy Year there this year. The Relics of the Apostle St James are said to have been buried there. It is not a huge coach journey from Lourdes. So it is easy to put them together. As yet no idea of Price  -  I was hoping for around the Spring Bank Holiday at the end of May / beginning of June….. have a think……more info on Internet  - type in Santiago de Compostella pilgrimage and all will be revealed.

SATURDAY EVENING MASSES:

The Bishop has asked us to look at the need and availability of Weekend Masses :  and to strive to have them at such times that the Local Clergy can cover them together. We have 2 Saturday evening Masses which will have to be combined into one; and it will need to be held at St Alban's.

It becomes a question of the TIME. A compromise of 6.30 and 7.30 would be at have the Mass at 7.00pm. This would be OK for other priests to help if and when needed; so I am putting this forward for your consideration. I have put out some 'Comment Sheets' for your thoughts. Any charitable comments appreciated ! Thank you.

The Bishop has to confirm any Mass Time Changes… so nothing will happen for a while

 FUNERAL OF LANCE SERGEANT WALKER

We managed to have a beautiful celebration of Lance Sergeant Davey Walker life on Thursday: It gave great strength to his wife, Teresa & Family and his Mum, May & Family plus 100's from the Scot's Guards. What ever your opinion about the war is -  Davey was an amazing character, a totally dedicated soldier who lead his men from the front with total courage:  a wonderful family man and a member of a rare group of men called the 'Scot's Guards'. His Mum told me that "It has been an honour and humbling to be his mother, he totally believed he was a soldier making the world a safer place for us all to live in" powerful words from a Mum whose lad was killed in combat. The Hymn she chose at Mass was Hymn No. 554.. please, find a Hymnbook and read the words of this hymn: in her place, could this have been your pick? This Mum truly believes in the Resurrection and has a marvellous faith – it was humbling & an honour for me to meet her

We have a separate tradition for Mass Offerings which is good to stick to: If anyone wishes a Mass to be offered for a person, whether alive, recently dead, around an anniversary time or for whatever reason what you do is: Write the name or specific Intention on the outside of an envelope and place some money inside the envelope and then give it to one of the priests who will offer Mass for the Intention / person. How much to give Well, nowadays people normally give a minimum of £5 and often more

ST VINCENT de PAUL Association meet here in the Presbytery fortnightly on Tuesday evenings at 6 pm for their prayer and discussions about he work they do in the parish:  They do a marvellous job and have great faith and show it with good works of charity.
